It's easy to say that 2020 was not anything any of us were expecting. In fact, that might be the understatement of the century. Celebrating New Years Eve 2019/2020 I don't think anyone envisioned a year of mask wearing, less social interaction more internet use, record deaths across the world, favorite restaurants closing down, and not seeing friends and family for extended periods of time.
While the pandemic for many has been a time of hunkering down, and not making huge life decisions (which is very understandable in the unknown that is this day and age) there are others moving forward in their life journey. It is a brave thing to face adversity head on and say "I will not let this obstacle stop me from happiness, and creating the life I want". I'm so profoundly moved by these individuals who find the gems in the chaos, who face the world together and still see the magic in each moment.
One of my favorite quotes has always been “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” - Brad Meltzer. I find that often times we don't know the internal struggle people are going through, the challenges in their own life, the true strength it takes to be honest with yourself about what does and does not make you happy. Spending the evening with this beautiful couple restored my faith in the fact that no matter what is going on, true love conquers all.
While many would not want to get pregnant during a pandemic, Christine and Ian were over the moon excited with the news they would be parents in 2021. Despite the fact that pregnancies aren't always easy, and that Ian couldn't go to 90% of her doctor's appointments with her due to COIVD, Christine has stayed a warrior of positivity and love, excited by every kick that reminds her of the new life that is not only growing inside her, but that she and Ian are growing towards. They look forward to each day that brings them one step closer to meeting their new lil muffin!
Yes, 2020 was one hell of a reset button, but I have taken it as a moment to push forward in life with what I truly want. To focus on what truly matters. I'm making 2021 my year, to blossom, to shine, to be unabashedly the best version of myself. Just like Christine and Ian are, I'm going to be brave and find the positive where many things could be negative. I hope you are able to do the same dear readers. Grow your own new version of what your year will be. How will you end up? What will you brith this year in terms of mental, emotional, or physical health, happiness, adventure?
And if you just can't think about that right now, that's okay too. I hope looking through these images of love and hope bring a smile to your face.
